Those who plan ahead, and those who open the refrigerator when they are hungry and wonder what they should make. I belong to the second category. I have, believe it or not, had to train myself to plan ahead, because as a result of my nature, I ended up never getting to make\u00a0things like idly, or anything that needed planning.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Anyway, this dish came about as a result of exactly that lack of planning. I was visiting my sister, it was a lazy afternoon and suddenly we realized that we didn&#8217;t have a plan. It turned out that there was some soaked\u00a0<em>kala chana<\/em>. And rice. I was too lazy to make kadala curry AND rice. So I just threw everything into one pot. We liked the result so much that I had to note the recipe down and email it to everyone \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Serves 2<br \/>\nTime: 30 min<\/p>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ingredients:<\/h4>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">1 cup kala c<span class=\"il\">hana<\/span><br \/>\n1 cup rice<br \/>\n1 cup chopped vegetables &#8211; baby corn, potato, carrot<br \/>\n\u00bd cup chopped onion<br \/>\n1 tsp chopped green chili<br \/>\n1 tsp chopped ginger<br \/>\n1 tsp chopped garlic<br \/>\n\u00bd\u00a0tsp <em>haldi\/\u00a0<\/em>turmeric powder<br \/>\n\u00bc tsp chili powder<br \/>\n\u00bd tsp\u00a0<em>dhania\/\u00a0<\/em> coriander powder<br \/>\n2 sprigs curry leaves<br \/>\n\u00bd tsp mustard seeds<br \/>\n\u00bc cup fresh coconut, grated<br \/>\n2 tbsp coriander leaves<br \/>\n1 tbsp coconut oil or ghee<\/p>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Method:<\/h4>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Soak overnight, and pressure cook kala <span class=\"il\">chana<\/span>\u00a0in 2-3 cups water for 10 min.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Drain and reserve the water.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a pressure cooker, heat oil or ghee, add mustard seeds, curry leaves, chopped ginger and garlic, and green chili. Add onion.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Add the vegetables and chana and cook for a couple of min, then add the rice. Add 2 cups water (can use the water in which the <span class=\"il\">chana<\/span> was cooking), salt, haldi, chili and coriander powder. Pressure cook for 5 min.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">When done, add grated\u00a0coconut and chopped coriander leaves.
